Should Text Messages Sent by Employees Be Private?

I believe that text messages sent by employees should be private, however, if the employee is using a company phone the messages should be viewable by the employer.  I think the messages should be viewable by employers, because a work phone should be used for work purposes only and no other reason.  These phones are company property so that legally gives the employer the right.  Employers should have a way to create settings on each phone to what's allowed and what's not.  The phones should just be basic phones, without access to the internet and limited messaging to somewhat have control of what's being viewed on the phone.  Employers should have the option to get all text message communications sent to the company on a monthly basis because it can be used to make sure all employees are doing their job how they should be.  As for an employee's personal phone, the employer should not have the right to view their messages because what the employee does on their own time is their business and work has nothing to do with that.

Should the Government Tax Media Downloads?

I think that it is only right for the governemt to tax media downloads, considering some of them are being illegally downloaded and funds are being taken away by that.  Seeing as the revenue is being lost, I think there should be a foot put down on all illegal downloads maybe to decrease the tax though.  Newspaper articles and magazine articles should not be taxed in my personal opinion. I realize funding for these articles is important but they shouldn't have to be downloaded, they are found in almost every store.  Digital content delivery should be considered a service rather than a good by taxing bodies, because if it weren't for digital content delivery we probably wouldn't be able to get the downloads we want or as good a picture as we want.

Employers Asking for Facebook Passwords

I believe that employers don't have the right to ask an employee for their login information.  Being that Facebook is a social networking site and the site is based around people posting their opinions about any and everything, if the employer has a problem with their employees being on Facebook then there should be restrictions saying that while an employee is working they are not allowed to view any other sites that aren't job related.  If an employer asks for login information, I don't think that it should be mandatory that you have to give it to them.  If the employee is worried about that what they're posting on Facebook is being viewed by their company then I would recommend to try and not post problems that are work related to be viewed publicly. If the issue is a recurring problem, then I think it would be a good idea to start looking for another job.

Microsoft Word

The concepts in Chapters 1 & 2 that I thought to be the easiest to learn was creating flyers for different events and downloading the images and using different font types to make the flyer look more appealing and noticeable.  The concepts I found to be the most difficult was using the MLA format to cite different books and cites, everything else was pretty much common sense, stuff that someone should know how to do.  I found the projects to be somewhat simple, I think the tutorials in both of the chapters helped me realize what I was doing a lot better.  When typing the research paper, the book was showing examples of what it was supposed to look like, and the different citations and fonts etc. we had to use.

Cyberbullying

I think banning anonymous comments is a step closer to reducing cyberbullying.  By banning anonymous comments, it would make it easier to view who is communicating the threats and by having to use a username this anonymous person will be least likely to continue.  The positive and negative aspects of the freedom to remain anonymous are the same to me.  You have the right to say whatever you want and not have to worry about what others think.  To reduce cyberbullying, I believe the schools should intervene and start presenting what cyberbullying is and the effect it can have on people's lives.  The role parents can play in cyberbullying is to talk to their children, learn what they are doing on the Internet, and keep their computers in common areas of the home.

Office 2010

This week in my computers class, I have learned how many great functions are available through Office 2010.  It has many different programs that are available that allow you to have access to spreadsheet programs, powerpoint which is useful for presentations, etc.  The information in the lecture notes were very helpful and useful, because they discussed each program very vividly.  Describing what was available through it and what the program was capable of.  The assignments this week for a bit confusing for me, some I didn't understand at all.  I watched the videos on zipping the file and I didn't really understand it or the concept of it very well.  That seemed to be the only problem I really had.

Computer blog

My name is Chelsea Carroll and I'm from Dublin, NC.  I think technology plays a major role in our society nowadays. It has a good effect and a bad effect.  Good being it helps us to keep in contact, held us to research, or keep businesses up and running. The bad being too many people depending on it.  I feel like technology is running our lives just do the fact that everything now is done on computers or through them.  In the future, I believe there will be no more pencil and paper and everything will be done through computers.
